Kwizeen Cafe ![]() Fab Food Find in Frankton In the bustling chaotic milieu of Frankton Markets on a Saturday morning, Frankton Junction Café is a safe haven. A fresh bright place advertising weekend brunch and the much needed awakening coffee to get me up and moving at this time of the day. The light wood of the tables and floors, mango walls and accents of British racing green are a good foil for the abstract oils of Vicki Carruthers, and we have perfect views to voyeur at the shoppers outside and listen to the (surprisingly okay) band across the street. The brunch menu includes such favourites as French toast ($7.50), BLAT ($9.50), Junction omelette ($7.50) and the full cooked brekky ($10.95). The other menu was tempting with salads ($9.95) – Greek, tandoori lamb, shrimp and avocado, and I almost chose the foccacia melt with roast chicken, brie, avocado and tomato ($9.50). But the full breakfast with bacon, eggs, toast, mushrooms, and award winning sausages was just too hard to pass up. I know I’m being piggy when I want sausages for breakfast. Maverick went for the French toast with berry sauce and cream. You can be sure that the waitress delivering the food got the order mixed up. Maybe real men don’t eat French toast. Or perhaps any weight-respecting cholesterol-fearing modern woman would never eat saus for brek… The meals were generous. Truck-stop generous. Mountains of bacon and eggs and simple white toast with really good sausages. Certainly not your average tube of lard soaked bread-crumbs, which is presumably why they have an award. They come from Top Mark butchers across the street. The fluffy French toast was piled high with blueberry, passion-fruit sauce and whipped cream, and was very tasty. The mochas to accompany were large and strong in lovely chunky blue pottery cups. Apparently Frankton Junction Café is famed for its muffins. We never made it past the blackboard menus to actually look in the display cabinet. Perhaps next time. The food we had was amazing value, well presented and scrumptious. The service was friendly and the atmos pleasant. A lovely way to start the weekend. Overall: More than just great value food - it's actually really tasty too!
